Subject: Social Scene

I would like to start my column by expressing my grateful thanks to each and everyone who put in so much effort to make sure that the Gala day was the sucess it turned out to be. It really was so good to see so many people enjoying the sunshine and the grounds something we almost take for granted.

The alteration of the opening time to 1.00.p.m. really seemed to ease the difficulties of a large number of cars arriving at the same time and with those of us who new how soft the entrance to the car park really was it came as great relief that all went well. I thought the various displays around the ground seemed to hold the visitors attention and the displays in the marquee created a lot of interest, thank you ladies one and all.

The first of our coach trips to the home of the Great Western Railway Swindon! on Saturday the 7th of July is filling up now please ask your friends if they wish to join ourselves this is not a closed Society visit lets fill the coach and have some fun. The shopping mall at Swindon is very interesting so please bring your ladies ( leave your credit cards at home). The venue hosts quite a few eating establishments something for everyone. The cost of the coach is just £10.00 per person. The admission to the museum is a seperate charge and is subject to confirmation closer to the date as it alters with the number actually entering the museum. We leave the club at 8.00am and leave Swindon at 5.00pm, see you on the coach.

The next public event we host is the pig roast this is going to take place on Saturday the 4th of August commencing at 5.00pm and due to finish at nine but if it turns out to be a pleasant evening those who wish to run after the public leave please bring rear lights and a torch! The format for the evening is as follows. Loco,s for the raised and ground level are required please talk to Richard or myself if you wish to run we need guards and stewards hopefully the field will be sound and will not present a problem for parking. The ticket entitles the public to free tea, coffee. or soft drinks but we will chage for the train rides as for the Gala Day. The Pig Roast is in the hands of an outside caterer and we do not have any involvement with it whatsoever.

Mr John Budd our treasurer has said that if the evening turns out to be a success we will be able to" ring fence" some monies towards the Gauge one extention so there we have it chaps lets push the evevnt as hard as we can to that end if anyone could display a poster advertising the event please ask me for a few they are quite smart and as we have changed our method of attracting the public i e. not the press. word of mouth and our posters seem to hit the right spot. The 1st of September is the date for our second trip this year and we are going to the City of Bristol more about this trip next time or if you wish information prior to publication talk to Richard or myself.

Finally for those of you who see that we reserve the first Wednesday of each month and term it a 'running night' which only partly covers the evening because our catering staff really do excel at preparing very enjoyable food for our pleasure. If you have not tried the evening fare just remember the first Wednesday of the month.

That's all for now.
